USC Roski School of Art and Design
The “Shade USC” aims to introduce shade structures around USC’s main campus to enhance comfort and aesthetics. Designed to support native vines with red, yellow, or white flowers, the structures incorporate
sustainable materials like recycled stainless steel and plastic. Each structure stands at least 8 feet tall, featuring grid-like roofing and integrated light panels. The base uses metal-screwed plates with dug holes and mulch for stability, and may include a sprinkler system to maintain plant health. This initial USC implementation serves as a testing ground for potential expansion into other areas.
